How to Clean a Top Loader Washing Machine?
Because washing machines have constant contact with dirty clothing, they may become a breeding ground for bacteria, some of which can be harmful if not properly disinfected. A somewhat lingering odor could be the first tell-tale sign. The second key factor is that your clothing does not smell as fresh as it should after being washed.
Here are a few effective tips for a thorough clean of a washing machine:
- Set and run the machine on the hottest cycle (no clothes).
- Add 3 cups of white vinegar and start the cycle. Pause after the washing machine is filled with water, and leave to soak for one hour.
- Clean the outside of the washing machine while waiting with baking soda and water - white vinegar and baking soda will kill bacteria and get rid of the odor.
- Wipe down the outside and clean hard-to-reach areas with a towel and toothbrush. Immerse any detachable pieces in a vinegar bath. Close the lid and repeat the wash cycle with hot water

- Clean the tub of the washing machine.
- Clean and soak your detergent trays, drawers, and detachable pieces while the tub is soaking.

How to Clean the Washing Machine Filter?
You'll need to clean the filter and the agitator to effectively deep clean a washing machine. This process differs from one washing machine to another. Agitators are rarely seen in front-load washers. Before removing any parts, make sure the washing machine is unplugged.
- To remove the washing machine filter, see the owner's manual.
- Remove the bolt holding the agitator using a socket wrench on agitator models. Next, reach under the machine and take out the agitator.
- Place the agitator and filter in a bucket of hot, soapy water. Use white vinegar and baking soda to make a DIY cleaning solution.
- Scrub the removed pieces with a soft bristle scrubbing brush. After you thoroughly rinse the components, dry with a microfiber towel.
- Place the filter and agitator back into the washing machine.
It'll be much simpler to keep your washing machine tidy now that you know how to clean it.
